Cake Farts fan of the week
This week's Cake Farts fan of the week is the founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad. We caught up with Muhammad this week and sat down with him to discuss his love for the Cake Farts and what direction he sees the team going. Full interview with the prophet is below:
Cake Fart Dennis: Muhammad, what about the Cake Farts captured your attention?
Muhammad: Where I am from in Mecca, we do not have softball. The Cake Farts were the first softball team I ever saw play, and I admired their hustle and dedication to the game. Their enthusiasm for the game reminded me of my followers' enthusiasm, so I knew this was the team I must root for.
CFD: What were you thinking when you saw them capture the 2009 Monday Night Men's Fall League Championship?
M: Allahu akbar!
CFD: What are your thoughts on the Cake Farts early struggles in 2010?
M: I believe they can turn it around. It is the trials and tribulations in life that make one stronger. I was orphaned at an early age and had to work as a merchant and a shephard before I received my first revelation from God. I believe the Cake Farts just need to relax and perhaps meditate to find their centers, and they will find success in the 2010 season.
CFD: Do you have any parting words of inspiration for the Cake Farts?
M: The strong man is not the good wrestler; the strong man is the one who controls himself when he is angry.
CFD: Ah, I see you saw me at the last game.
CFD: Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak with me Muhammad. The Cake Farts wish you and your people the best of luck in the future.
M: Thank you for having me. God bless you, and GO CAKE FARTS!

Week 2 Loss - A Reflection
The first game of the season is never easy.. especially when you are playing the 2nd best team in the league. After seeing Punishment play yesterday, I am certain of 1 thing... that WASN'T their first game of the year.
Here is a summary of my observations and thoughts from the game.
Defense
Solid. I personally made 2 errors in the first inning, however I can't think of anything else that went bad. The outfield (half of which was substitutions) played great. There are few teams that will hit it harder than they did yesterday, and if our play in the outfield is any indicator of how the rest of the season will be, we won't have much to worry about.
The infield played decent as well. There were few balls actually hit on the ground that were playable. 2 errors by myself and a miscommunication after a grounder to first helped inflate their score. By the end of the game we were running smoothly.
Offense
If I had to describe our offense over the past couple of sessions in 3 words- it would be "the bare minimum". We always seemed to do just enough to get by. Yesterday we fell way short of doing just enough. The first few innings yielded no offensive production, but again, by the 4 and 5 we were starting to turn things around. Now that the pressure of remaining undefeated is off our shoulders, we can focus on improving this deficit. Expect big changes in the lineup for next week.
Overall
If you would have asked me mid-game yesterday, I my answer would have been different. By the end of the game I was feeling much better about how things were going. We were making some contact on the ball, putting runners on base and allow little if any runs every inning. It was almost the Cake Farts of last year. Almost. Going forward, hitting has to improve. We have to communicate better defensively and accept the good with the bad.
Our key to success this year lies in our ability to function as a team. We won't be worrying about invidual statistics, who can hit the ball the farthest or made the best play. At the end of the day the only numbers I report to the CRC are wins and losses. Lets focus on those.

Bob's Rehabilitation Schedule
After a strenuous 12 week physical therapy program and countless sleepless nights, this morning Bob Whelan was given a three week throwing program to have himself ready for the Spring 2010 softball season. Some assistance will be needed by fellow teammates as this program is designedto actually get out on the field and throw the ball with someone.

Potential Lineup Discussion
Team,
I've spent a great deal of my time considering the lineup for our upcoming Spring Session. Please let me know your thoughts on the lineup listed below:
1. Fiz - RC
2. Denny - Utility
3. Elder - RF
4. Nick - 1B
5. Scott - Utility
6. Adam - SS
7. Patrick - LF
8. Andy - LC
9. Bob - C (pending his recovery- also a candidate for some time @ 1B)
10. Moose - P
You may have noticed that I kept myself and Denny in utility positions- one of us will be at second and the other will be filling in at another position.
Thoughts?

Spring Training
Pitchers and catchers report next week, and you know what that means. Cake Farts season is just around the corner. The Cake Farts will need another strong season to defend their trophy. In a league where just one loss can strip you of a championship season, I expect all of the Cake farts to be doing whatever they can right now to be in top shape once the season begins. Stay in shape and hit the cages a few times before the Cake Farts hold their first outdoor practice once the weather warms up. If the coaches determine that you aren't 100% devoted to this team, you WILL be cut.
New Season
This was a great idea- whoever came up with this blog- thank you.
I plan on posting regularly on my thoughts. I plan reflecting on our past success and looking towards the future of Cake Farts softball.
The season is due to start in late April/early May, so everyone needs to be working out harder than ever. While we played great last season, we can't expect to do the same thing and succeed. We need to work and evolve as players together. I expect constant hustle and improvement out of every single player.
